If you are administering the estate of a loved one who lived outside Canada but left behind an asset located in Ontario, you may need local legal assistance to complete the administration.
When an Estate Has a Limited Ontario Connection
In many cases, the deceased was originally from Ontario but lived abroad for many years, leaving behind a bank account, investment, or other modest asset here.
When this occurs, Ontario financial institutions often require specific documentation — sometimes including an Ontario Certificate of Appointment (probate) — before they will release or transfer the asset.
How I Assist
I assist non-resident executors who need help with the Ontario portion of estate administration. My role is to handle the local requirements efficiently and coordinate with both the financial institution and your local counsel as needed.
I will review the Ontario asset and communicate directly with the financial institution to determine what documentation or court application, if any, is required.
If an Ontario filing is necessary, I will prepare and submit the court materials and manage the process on your behalf from start to finish.
Practical, Remote Support
All work can be completed remotely, with secure document exchange and virtual meetings — allowing you to manage the Ontario component of the estate without the need to travel.
